Second Chance’s Racing For Rescues

On Behalf of | Jun 5, 2020 | Blog, Charity, Pet Trust |

Since the COVID-19 global crisis started, there haven’t been many things to get excited about but one highlight of this uncertain quarantine-life has been Second Chance Pet Adoption’s ‘FURtual’ Racing for Rescues event. As a Platinum-Paw sponsor of Second Chance, TLG got a shout-out from Newsman Wes Hohenstein when he kicked off the event on CBS-17 (https://youtu.be/7KB6JFKJdvc and https://www.facebook.com/SecondChanceNC/posts/10156682223081266). If you have time, please check out his video and give it a ‘Like.’

Every year, Second Chance hosts a fun run/walk in order to raise money to help abandoned cats and dogs find loving, FURever homes. Last year’s event was a delightful blur of adorable puppies and kittens, delicious snacks from various local food trucks, a little bit of much needed exercise, awesome raffle prices, and a whole lot of socializing. At last year’s event, the word ‘social-distancing’ hadn’t even crossed anyone’s mind and the fun run/walk was a wall-to-wall mob of people and dogs making their way down the trail at Dorothea Dix Park in Downtown Raleigh.

When it came time for this year’s Racing for Rescues event (https://www.secondchancenc.org/event/racing-for-rescues-2020/), Second Chance had to adapt their plans to this brave, new world where everyone has to stand 6 feet apart and groups larger than five or ten people are a major health concern. They compiled a list of fun, quarantine-friendly activities including a scavenger hunt, a pet and human costume contest, and a fun walk that can be done in your own neighborhood or any location of your choosing.

The TLG Family decided to do a walk in the neighborhood next to their office park in an effort to beat the boredom of staying inside all day. Precautionary measures were taken to protect everyone in the group including social distancing and the donning of adorable face masks that were kindly sewn by Attorney Jenifer Wolfe’s mother. Getting outside and stretching their legs really helped lift everyone’s spirits and TLG is so grateful for Second Chance for getting them up and moving for a fantastic cause. TLG’s Owner, Attorney Laurie Gengo, even brought her adorable dog, Sienna, along for the walk which really brightened everyone’s day.

Even in these scary, uncertain times, the Second Chance FURtual Racing for Rescues event has shown all of us that we can still have fun and spend time with family members and friends, even if only from a distance. TLG wants to give a big shout out to Second Chance for everything they do for homeless animals and the NC community!
